The body of a male stillborn baby was found by a rubbish collector who initially saw two legs jutting out from a plastic bag in the Bestari Apartments, Bukit Beruang, yesterday at 2:45pm.

The man called for his supervisor, who then alerted the police. Police have detained a woman in her 20s who was found at the apartment with bloodstained pants.

The woman has been sent to the hospital for a medical checkup.

A Customs officer was killed and another seriously injured when their car, which was chasing a cigarette smuggler suspect, crashed into a telephone pole and a cocoanut tree yesterday at 5:20am.

30-year-old Sazli Abdullah Khan and 23-year-old Ahmad Zharif Ahmad Zubir were patrolling in their Proton Wira vehicle when they gave chase on the suspect from Sungai Haji Baroni towards Sungai Besar. Their vehicle skidded along Jalan Sungai Besar – Tanjung Malim and swerved to the other side, crashing into the tree and pole.

Driver Sazli died on arrival at the Sabak Bernam Hospital. Azhmad Sharif suffered a broken left forearm and has been transferred to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang after his condition turned stable.

During a sea operation in the Pengerang waters yesterday at 5:30am, marine police seized a speed boat with two Indonesian crew and cartons of cigarettes worth about RM100,000. The suspects escaped to a swamp nearby at Pasir Gosok, Pengerang.

Police found 24 boxes containing 1,200 cartons of cigarettes each. Including this seizure, police have successfully stopped the smuggling of cigarettes from Indonesia six times this year.
