Martin Joseph Ignatius, a 48-year-old executive with The Star Online, was assaulted and robbed at Jalan Chan Ah Tong, Brickfields, yesterday at 5:45am by a bus stop.

Two men in a Toyota vehicle approached him and one of them got off and tried to rob him. Ignatius tried to escape but fell. He then handed over his wallet and a chain to the robber. He was then told to remove his rings but he could not do so. This was when the other robber got off and hit Ignatius with an iron rod.

The robbers then fled in their vehicle.

Ignatius has been warded at the Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya.

A 14-year-old girl was lured by a 16-year-old school dropout to an empty house in Taman Suria where she was raped by four boys. One of the boys even recorded the crime on video with his mobile phone.

Police have three 16-year-old boys while the fourth one is still at large. The girl’s statement has been taken and she has been sent for a medical check-up. The boys will be remanded for five days.

The mobile phone believed to have been used to record the rape has been seized by the police.

36-year-old M. Elangoran has been sentenced to 688 months’ jail for trafficking 86 illegal immigrants into Malaysia last year.

The bus driver from Ipoh was sentenced to 8 months’ jail for every illegal immigrant he allowed on the bus he was driving. The bus was plying on the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration Complex exit route on 3 February 2006 at 7:30am.

The magistrate has set bail at RM15,000 in one surety and ordered for the bus to be forfeited.
