The uncle of the three brothers who were arrested in relation to the rape and murder of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman student Tang Lai Meng has been remanded by the police in an apartment in Bukit Jalil at 3pm on Saturday. The man is the prime suspect in this case and has been remanded for six days.

The man led police to the Toyota Vios which belonged to the victim. It was parked in Taman Angsana, Cheras, near to Bandar Mahkota Cheras where she was found strangled to death. Police seized a laptop computer and mobile phone belonging to the victim from the man.

It is believed that the man had been convicted of a drug offence and had been placed under restricted residence in Temerloh, Pahang. He escaped and stayed with his three nephews.

Earlier on Thursday, the three brothers, aged 15, 18 and 30, were arrested in their home in Bandar Mahkota Cheras.

A 4-year-old girl was lured into a public toilet by a man, who is believed to be mentally ill. He tried to grope her at Jalan Pos Bahru but was caught by the girl’s father and some members of the public.

The mother had earlier tried to pull her daughter away from the man, who had pulled down the girl’s panties and starting touching her. She then alerted the father, who managed to save the girl.

Police have arrested three brothers who were neighbours of the rape and murder victim Tang Lai Meng. Investigations are ongoing and they are looking for an uncle of the suspects. Tang, aged 20, was an undergraduate from the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman who was found raped, sodomised and strangled to death in her home in Bandar Mahkota Cheras.

The brothers, aged between 15 and 30, were arrested on Thursday after they returned to their home. One of them is believed to have a criminal record.

This brings the total number of people in police custody to 10.
