John Leslie Lefevre, aged 45, who is a freelance journalist has been charged with cheating at the Makro Cash & Carry hypermarket in Cheras. The Australian journalist allegedly cheated the cashier Amar Hatim Abu Hanifah on 29 March last year by switching the price tags on two pairs of shorts, a track bottom, a t-shirt and five pairs of socks. The items appeared to cost RM28.50 when they actually cost RM62.50.
House detective Abdul Gafur Jamat found Lefevre behaving suspiciously that night and detained him at the security office.
As Lefevre could not pay the stipulated fine, he was sentenced to 10 months’ jail starting from 30 March 2006. He should be released today.

Taiping
A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the death of his five-year-old daughter. He had led police to an oil palm estate in Batu Tegoh, Jebong, yesterday where the decomposed body of the girl was located in a grave.
The man was involved in theft and drug cases previously.
Police say that the mother had lodged a report on Wednesday stating that her husband had pressed the girl’s chest, causing her to vomit on 22 January 2007.

Port Klang
Officers from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Department of Selangor seized a container carrying 784 cartoons of imitation Pepsodent toothpaste at Northport on Thursday. The container was watched by them for three weeks before the importer was apprehended.
The toothpaste, estimated to be priced at RM40,000, appeared to be manufactured in Indonesia and was imported from China.
The case is being investigated under the Trade Description Act and the authorities are looking for the offender who endorsed the consignment.
