During the noon recess of the High Court murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu yesterday, accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri celebrated his 32nd birthday with a birthday cake but none of his family members were around.
Investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Tonny Lunggan said yesterday that when he was at the crime scene he acted as an observer and did not pick up any case items. He said there were 20 police officers and that he saw several bone fragments and wires which the forensic team collected.
He also identified several other case items including a wristwatch, ring and earrings belonging to Altantuya that were found in Sirul’s jacket pocket. The items he identified were handed over by police officers to him and several documents were then passed to the forensic team at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The trial continues on Tuesday.

A superintendent police officer in his 50s has been remanded for three days by Selangor Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) investigators yesterday for allegedly accepting a RM75,000 bribe as inducement to not take action against a vehicle theft syndicate.
Earlier, it is believed that the officer was arrested for involvement in a luxury vehicle theft case where individual vehicle parts were found in a warehouse in Gombak. After police arrested the syndicate’s mastermind, he allegedly offered the officer a bribe to be set free. The mastermind was later banished to a remote location under the Emergency Ordinance.
The mastermind later lodged a police report claiming that the officer had taken the bribe.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said he was waiting for a report from the ACA before deciding on the disciplinary action to take.
