Sharlinie Missing: Second Doll, Police Impersonators

18 January 2008
Petaling Jaya

Police have found another doll in Gunung Rapat, Ipoh, similar to the one left in the area of Taman Medan last week where 5-year-old Sharlinie Mohd Nashar was last seen.

Sharlinie has been missing from a playground in Taman Medan on 9 January 2008.

A photograph of the doll was taken and eventually caught the attention of the police a few days ago. Petaling police are working with their Perak counterparts to verify the authenticity of the photograph and to contact the person who took it.

Meanwhile on Thursday, a man and his accomplice, both in their 20s, showed up at Sharlinie’s house at 9:40pm, pretending to police officers from the Bukit Aman division.

They claimed to know about Sharlinie’s whereabouts and to have seen her recently. They also asked for a clearer photograph of the girl.

Sharlinie’s family members became suspicious of them and started searching for them after they left asking questions. The two were brought back to the house where one of them admitted that they were bogus policemen. The neighbours became furious and started assaulting them, but one of them managed to escape on a motorcycle.

The other man was handed over the police. He was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre’s (UMMC) psychiatric unit for observation, initially showing that he was mentally unstable.

Police said they have sought for help from Interpol although they have reasons to believe that she is still in the country. House-to-house searching in abandoned houses and buildings in the Klang Valley is still ongoing.

Altantuya Murder Trial: Celcom IT Analyst Data Accurate

17 January 2008
Shah Alam

Celcom information technology analyst Syed Mustaqim Syed Yusoff said in High Court yesterday that as the time taken to capture a call transaction is less than a second, the data extracted from the mobile switch would be accurate.

On the 78th day of the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu, the 29-year-old said that if the data was corrupted, it could not be read, extracted or retrieved. Thus, the data which he had extracted showing that accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri was at Puncak Alam where Altantuya was murdered and blown up with explosives was not corrupted.

When questioned by Azilah’s counsel J. Kuldeep Kumar earlier, he agreed that the data on Azilah’s call transactions printed by Celcom’s Investigation and Special Project Division executive Mohd Firdaous Mohd Omar was different from the one that he obtained from the switch.

Mohd Firdaous was requested by the investigating police to prepare Azilah’s phone record details for the trial.

Hearing continues on Monday.
