Bukit Mertajam
Two robbers got away with jewellery worth RM1 million from a jewellery shop at the Summit Shopping Centre yesterday at 2:30pm. Armed with fake pistols, they rushed into Kedai Emas Orkid located on the first floor and forced the staff to place jewellery into a bag.
After filling up the bag with 9 trays worth of jewellery, the suspects left the scene in three minutes. They were wearing full-face helmets.
The robbery, which lasted only 3 minutes, is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code.

30-year-old Lee Peck Wah was charged in court yesterday for three counts of raping a 22-year-old clerk. Posing as a spiritual medium and healer, he allegedly raped the woman on 8 and 9 December 2007 at a hotel along Jalan Batu Tiga Lama and on 16 December 2007 at a hotel along Jalan Kapar.
The accused, from Rantau Panjang, Kapar, claimed trial to the charges. His lawyer stated that Lee worked as an excavator operator and not a medium.
Under Section 376 of the Penal Code, each charge carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and whipping.
The judge granted bail at RM15,000 in one surety and set 18 to 20 August 2008 for hearing.

The two men who were arrested in connection with the kidnap and murder of Nurin Jazlin Jazimin kidnap-cum-murder case have been released.
The first suspect who was detained from Lorong Haji Taib, Chow Kit, was released on Tuesday afternoon. The second suspect who was detained in an abandoned building along Jalan Tun Razak, was also released but was later handed over to the Narcotics Department. He was suspected to be under the influence of drugs while he was arrested.
Police confirmed the release yesterday, as they did not sufficient evidence against them.
