Port Klang Assemblyman Zakaria’s Brother-in-law Hanged

17 January 2008
Klang

45-year-old Fathil Ahmad, the brother-in-law of Port Klang assemblyman Zakaria Md Deros, was found hanged in his home in Kampung Idaman yesterday. It is believed that he was alone at home when his wife Saodah Md Deros and their three children went to school.

When Saodah returned home at 7:30am, she noticed that Fathil did not open the front door. She then went to the side of the house and saw her former crane operator husband hanging from the ceiling with a rope that was used to tow vehicles.

Fathil was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Fathil’s body has been buried at the Lipat Kajang Muslim cemetery.

Police did not suspect foul play and have the case as sudden death.

Altantuya Murder Trial: Prosecution Witness Admits Inaccurate Evidence

16 January 2008
Shah Alam

27-year-old Syed Mustaqim Syed Yusoff told the court yesterday in the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu that evidence presented earlier on accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri’s prepaid SIM card was inaccurate. The information technology analyst from Celcom made the admission because he said he was unfamiliar with the prepaid system.

Syed Mustaqim admitted this to counsel J. Kuldeep Kumar, who is representing Azilah. Judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin showed his frustration by saying that he “just want to know if the phone transactions were made and received at the said locations.”

Yesterday, he shared the flow of call data from the Mobile Switching Centre or the Intelligent Network, to the mediation system and then to the prepaid or postpaid system. He also explained certain technicalities of the scripting of the programme, the programme itself and the mobile network system.

Hearing continues today.

Nurin Murder Case: Suspects’ DNA Samples Taken

16 January 2008
Kuala Lumpur

Police have taken DNA samples from the two suspects arrested over the weekend in connection with the abduction and murder of 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin last year.

The two suspects who were both security guards have been detained since Sunday by the police. The four girls who were allegedly victims of the “Kampung Baru molester” failed to recognize the abandoned building along Jalan Tun Razak where the 32-year-old suspect was caught. The girls were also unable to identify either suspects as the culprit.

Police said that the samples have been sent to the lab for analysis and added that the suspects may be released if no evidence is found against them.
