Goldsmith Shop Robbery Ends with Three Dead

4 February 2007
Petaling Jaya

The Poh Kong Goldsmith Shop on the ground floor of the Subang Parade shopping complex was hit by five masked men at around 8:20pm yesterday. They were carrying automatic pistols, possibly M16s, and revolvers.

When the men arrived, they fired at three security guards, killing two instantly. The third guard was seriously hurt and was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre. Hundreds of shoppers ran for cover as about 50 bullets were fired.

As the gang made off with jewellery, a security guard from the nearby Tomei jewellery shop opened fire at them with his pump gun. One of the robbers, believed to be a Thai national, was hit and died on the spot. He was seen to be heading to the second shop while the rest escaped.

As they made their getaway in a waiting vehicle, they opened fire again but no one was hurt. It is learnt that the gang had several similar vehicles at various exit points, which all fired shots to cause confusion at the scene.

Police suspect the same gang was involved in three goldsmith shop robberies and five murders previously.
