Mobile Phone Cheat Scams in Front of Police Station

Mohd Nazuruddin Awang, aged 26, from Pasir Pekan has pleaded guilty for cheating two people in front of the Kota Baru police station. He posed as a police officer selling cheap mobile phones allegedly seized during raids.

When his customers gave him cash, he would enter the police station supposedly to get the phone. Instead he would sneack out the back gate, scamming the customer. Awang has collected RM900 by committing the crime twice in Kota Baru and once in Pasir Mas.

He cound be sentenced to whipping, a fine and a maximum of ten years’ jail.

Kelantan police commercial crimes department chief Superintendent Rezlan Abu Bakar said the police do not sell such items during raids.

Rioting Men at Temple Arrested

Twenty men at the Sri Muniswarar temple in Tampoi were arrested and charged with rioting, causing hurt to a government officer, causing damage to a patrol car and obstruction of government service. They were among the 2,000 to 3,000 people at the temple early yesterday morning.

Police had arrived at the temple after receiving reports of people obstructing traffic at the temple. When Johor Baru (South) traffic chief Deputy Supt Ooi Kok Siong got out of his patrol car to control traffic, the group of men three stones, beer bottles and helmets at him and his colleagues. One of the stones hit his left shin and had to be stitched.

The men, aged between 17 and 25 years old, were making noise and performing illegal motorcycle stunts outside the temple. Federal Reserve Unit officers later arrived and arrested them.

Police say that these men were intoxicated and came from Ulu Tiram, Taman Daya, Pasir Gudang, Masai and Skudai.

Form Four Student Murder Case Investigations to Complete

Police say that investigations into the death of SM Teknik Bintulu Fourth Former Matheus Mering August is almost complete. They have statements from 18 students, teachers, hostel wardens and witnesses to the crime.

The students who were remanded from Saturday night may have to stay longer if the police’s application to extend the order is approved.
