Lawyer J. Kuldeep Kumar, who represents accused Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri in the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu, challenged the accuracy of records provided by mobile telecommunications operator Celcom yesterday. 117 discrepancies were pointed out against the evidence which was brought to court previously by 31-year-old Special Projects and Investigation Division executive Mohd Firdaous Mohd Omar.

The records showed calls and short messages made between phones belonging to accused Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda, accused Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, Lance Corporal Rohaniza Roslan, TV3 newsreader Mohd Izwan Azir Mohad Saleh and Azilah. The calls were made between 17 and 21 October 2006.

Kuldeep submitted a 55-page document detailing the date, time, call duration and location differences between billing records and phone logs. The time differences vary between 1 to 45 seconds. When questioned by Kuldeep, Mohd Firdaous agreed to the differences.

Mohd Firdaous also told Kuldeep that he was not sure about the number of the transponder used in the recordings and the location of the caller as it was issued by another department in Celcom.

Hearing continues today.

A 47-year-old farmer who had a history of mental problems, slashed a 13-year-old schoolgirl to death in a provision shop in Teluk Intan on Tuesday at 6:40pm.

Lim Wan Qing and her older sister were manning the shop at the time, while their father had gone home for dinner. The suspect entered the shop with a parang and tried to slash the older sister but missed. He then turned on Wan Qing and slashed her throat. Two customers in the shop dared not to interfere.

Police who arrived 10 minutes later managed to calm and arrest the suspect. The girl was rushed to Teluk Intan Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Wan Qing scored 7As in Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah last year. The suspect was living in the same village as the victim’s family. It is learnt that the suspect was a patient in Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan and had been on medication.

The man has been remanded until next Tuesday and his case is being classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Police have smashed one of the largest credit card forgery operation in the state by arresting six men, in their 30s and 40s, in George Town and Butterworth in Penang and in Perak yesterday at 4:30am.

900 fake credit cards were also seized from the suspects, totalling about RM9 million in spending limit. A few laptops were used to encode the cards. Police also seized RM12,000 and HK$80,000 cash, mobile phones and some other card-related equipment.

Some cards were found hidden in two paintings which the suspects had planned to ship to foreign countries. The cards were embedded with security magnetic tape and names of foreign banks, suggesting that they were to be used in Vietnam, Nepal and Switzerland. The suspects would also sell fake foreign passports which were used by shops to verify the credit card holders.

The suspects are in police custody until Monday.
