Chinese National Not Raped by Policemen

3 April 2008
Kuala Lumpur

According to a medical report from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, it was found that the Chinese national woman, who was allegedly molested, raped and robbed by two policemen, did not suffer any injuries and had no indication of sexual intercourse. There were neither cuts nor tears on the woman’s genitals.

City police chief Datuk Muhammad Sabtu Osman said investigations are ongoing and warned officers that stern action will be taken against the suspected policemen if the allegations were proven to be true. If they are to be charged in court, they would be suspended from duty and dismissed from the force if found guilty.

After the woman had lodged a police report on the matter, police seized belongings from the two policemen, including an amount of cash to determine if it belonged to the woman. Her purse and mobile phone, which she claimed were taken by the policemen, were not found on them. A forensics team was sent to the car park where she was allegedly driven to and raped.

The policemen, a lance corporal and a constable from the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, have been detained for five days since Tuesday.

Altantuya Murder Trial: Exhibits Slows Down Trial

2 April 2008
Shah Alam

On the 102nd day of the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu, High Court judge Datuk Mohd Zaki Md Yasin noted that the identification of exhibits tendered in court was time-consuming and laborious.

So far, a total of 408 exhibits have been tendered in the trial, including forms, documents, bone fragments, soil samples, live bullets, explosives and a submachine gun.

Yesterday, 29-year-old Assistant Superintendent Tonny Lunggan had to verify the exhibits that he had examined when he was an investigating officer on the case. Among the 13 items found in the Suzuki jeep of accused Corporal Sirul Azhar, Lunggan drew his attention to a bullet cartridge which he asked Superintendent Soo Me Tong, head of the police forensic lab’s chemistry division to show it to him. He told the court that he had opened a sealed envelope containing the item and after examining it, placed it back into the envelope and sealed the envelope with white tape.

On 8 November 2006, Lunggan said he was informed by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensics head Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood that the total number of exhibits sent to the hospital were insufficient and incomplete. Dr Mohd Shah then suggested to Lunggan to revisit the crime scene to search for missing bones together with Superintendent Amidon Anan.

Lunggan spent three hours at the crime scene, acting as an observer only. There, he noted that the exhibits were only identified and marked with small flags and were not removed.

Before he left the scene, Lunggan contacted DSP Lim Meng Seah to examine co-accused Abdul Razak Baginda’s office in Bangunan Getah Asli. Lunggan then got a call from Lim informing him that five memo documents were seized at Razak’s office. After his meeting back at his office, Lunggan was given 13 items from Soo, who was instructed to check Azhar’s jeep.

The trial continues today.
